Fair Trade Day activities: We have decided to launch our branding activities
during the World Fair Trade Day celebrations in Boston.
We will be doing it
with our partner that is doing lots off organizing work in fair trade: the
Boston Faith and Justice Network. It will be a fair trade bazaar with different
vendors present as well as workshops going on as well. There will be press there
and over leadership from over 30 churches.
What we are
doing: We are participating in our partner's (Boston Faith and Justice Network)
fair trade education work here in Boston.
Description: Boston Faith
& Justice Network is hosting a celebration and social justice resource event
to commemorate World Fair Trade Day.
Don't miss this dynamic time of
workshops, speakers, networking and worship. Learn creative and practical ways
to live out the kingdom of God in your congregation and neighborhood. Be
equipped and inspired to follow Jesus and love the world.
Saturday, May
10, 1-5pm: OKe will be co-facilitating an "Intro to Fair Trade" workshop, we
will also have a table at the bazaar
This is the website explaining
activities for the day: http://www.bostonfaithjustice.org
Where
we are doing it it: Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church 1555 Massachusetts
Avenue Cambridge, MA
Who we're doing it with: Boston Faith and Justice
Network - we will be co-facilitating with a church leader, yet to be
identified
What we want to make of it: We want to create a network of
support here in our home turf.
We would also like partner with an
organization that could do the educational work that needs to be done (fair
trade education), that we as a company cannot do because we have labor, time and
financial constraints. We also want to invest in a partnership that will create
an organizing model that is scalable. We hope that if BFJN is successful, that
we would then be able to replicate this partnership in other cities. Already, NY
has created a sister organization with whom we have made initial contact
with.
How we'd like people to engage: We want them to be be made aware so
that they can commit to us and our cause.
Who will be there: Community
leaders (non-fair trade related)
Other fair trade activists (university
students, Oxfam activists, green organizations)
Members of different
churches
Leaders from over 30+ churches
Background collaborators and
supporting organisations: Equal Exchange, One Campaign, United Methodist
Church
